Good value, better battery than most (8 cell), great 15.4 screen, no frills simple keyboard work area layout. Wireless works well. Bottom of notebook stays relatively cool as compared to others. Sound/speakers pretty decent.
Converting this notebook to a legally licensed XP does not void the hardware warranty. Toshiba offers little help for XP drivers, but just search Google for A205 or A215 and you will find all of them (except the driver for the little used function/hotkeys). ATI video driver a little tricky, you must manually install it. XP Conversion went great and completed in 2 hours. Always make sure Service Pack 2 is installed before adding XP drivers. Now that XP Pro is installed, this Toshiba runs smooth and fast. The 1 Gb RAM makes XP fly. Boots up fast and shuts down fast. As with almost all notebooks, video memory is shared, and this one is no exception, but it does allocate up to 320MB of the 1 GB and the ATI chip manages it pretty well.
